Premier League: Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva ‘the best’ – 12/1 for PFA Player of the Year

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola may have hailed him as ‘the best’ but Bernardo Silva is still a long way behind 4/5 favourite Mohamed Salah in the PFA Player of the Year outright betting.

The 27-year-old, who scored a sensational goal at Villa Park in midweek, is the same price as current holder Kevin De Bruyne at 12/1 with Phil Foden and Cristiano Ronaldo paired at 14/1.

The pre-season narratives surrounded the signings of Jack Grealish and Romelu Lukaku, with Cristiano Ronaldo adding his name to the mix, with Silva unfancied in the betting due to the uncertainty of his future at the Etihad.

Silva was absent from City’s first starting XI against Tottenham in August, and only featured for 16 minutes in the Community Shield the week before.

A few months on and the midfielder has become ‘undroppable’ in Pep’s setup as he bids to do something that his namesake and former team-mate surprisingly wasn’t able to do in the Premier League – lift the PFA Player of the Year trophy.

He sits 10th in the league for goals and assists so far this season, but the Portuguese has his work cut out catching up with Salah, even if the Egyptian’s remarkable year was only deemed worthy of a seventh-place finish in the Ballon d’Or.

Market leader Salah took his goal-tally to 13 with a brace against rivals Everton, and is now on a whopping 21 goals and assists for the season, well on pace to smash Thierry Henry’s 38-game season record of 44.

At his current pace, Salah is on for an unfathomable 54 goals and assists, but he does have the Africa Cup of Nations coming up in January.

It’s also worth remembering that Bruno Fernandes was a similar price at this time last season and he ended up empty-handed.
