Australian Racing: Daumier emerges at Blue Diamond contender
Daumier aimed at Blue Diamond StakesThe Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained Daumier emerged as a serious contender for the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes next month when he took out yesterday's Listed Blue Diamond Preview for colts.
The son of Epaulette was making his racecourse debut yesterday and he is now 19/1 shot for the Blue Diamond Stakes which will be run at Caulfield on 26th February.
Daumier was kept firm in the market before scoring by half a length for jockey Damian Lane over Rampant Lion with early leader Philosopher - who is also trained by the Freedmans - a length away third.

Freedman outlines Daumier plans
Sam Freedman said the stable expected the colt would be best suited when he progressed beyond 1000 metres.
"He began a little bit better than we thought and we didn't have much of a plan going into it, but he put up a really good performance," he said.
"He was challenged from all sides and showed really good fight in the last 100 (metres) and showed the 1100 and 1200 will be right in his wheelhouse."
Meanwhile, Lane said Daumier had a strong future: "He's a lovely colt. He's taken really good improvement this preparation and taking it all in his stride.
"He was really field shy in his first preparation and he's improved a lot in his second and improved again into today.
"He took it all in his stride behind the barriers, remained really calm and is one of those horses that is doing everything right at the right time and should progress again."
