NBA: LA showdown a major weekend highlight

The Clippers take on the Lakers

It's another big weekend in the NBA and three games in particular stand out, with the top teams in the Western and Eastern Conferences colliding.

There's a much-anticipated clash between Los Angeles rivals, whilst the top two in the West do battle for the second time in three days and you can follow the action on our Sports Live Streaming platform.

Los Angeles Clippers at Los Angeles Lakers (Saturday)

The Lakers have historically had the upper hand over the LA rivals, but go into this game having lost their last three meetings with the Clippers.

In the last two games between the teams, the Lakers have failed to score 100+ points, but this is a perfect chance for them to gain revenge.

The Clippers - who are currently 25/1 to win the NBA title - have lost their last three games going into this clash and have now slipped behind the Lakers in the Western Conference standings.

Even though Lebron James will miss out, Frank Vogel's men should have enough to see off their rivals, especially with Anthony Davis and Carmelo Anthony rediscovering their form.

Davis is averaging 25 points in the last 10 games and the eight-time NBA All Star often steps up in the absence of King James.

Phoenix Suns at Golden State Warriors (Saturday)

The top two in the West meet for the second time in three days on Saturday, with Phoenix now top of the standings have gone on a 17-game winning streak.

The Suns are proving that last season's journey to the NBA finals was not a flash in the pan and they look determined to prove the doubters wrong.

Their 104-96 success over GSW on Wednesday was another indication that they are genuine contenders - with Monty Williams' squad currently 18-3 and 13/2 to win the title.

It's been said before that the Suns hold a team ethic more than some of the top NBA teams, with not one superstar in their ranks.

Devin Booker has been their top points scorer so far this season, but Wednesday's win was another indication of how they share the burden.

Booker managed just 10 points against the Warriors after suffering a hamstring injury, but Deandre Ayton chipped in with 24 points to claim a key win for Phoenix.

The Suns did a brilliant job of stifling Stephen Curry, with the Warriors star man managing just 12 points during his 36 minutes on court - it was also the first time this term that Golden State failed to score 100+ points in a match.

Phoenix do have an extra game to play before their next match-up with the Warriors, but with the confidence they have and on the winning run they are on, that may not have impact.

Chicago Bulls at Brooklyn Nets (Sunday)

The surprise package of the season to date are the Chicago Bulls, who are currently third in the East with a 14-8 record and 10/1 to claim the Conference title.

Having failed to make the play-offs for the last four campaigns, many didn't expect post-season basketball for the Bulls this time around, especially after they finished 11th in the East last term.

But Billy Donovan's men have impressed so far, already beating the likes of the Lakers, Celtics and Clippers, although they now face their biggest test of the season.

Chicago are another team who don't have a big name to rely on, with the likes of Nikola Vucevic, DeMar DeRozan and Lonzo Ball amongst those having an impact.

Defensively it's been Alex Caruso catching the eye, with the former Lakers man topping the list for steals this term - averaging 2.2 per game.

It's definitely no surprise to see the Nets at the top of the East, but their form is still under scrutiny and the lost 118-95 to Chicago in Illinois back in early November.

Kevin Durant, the league's leading scorer, still bagged 38 points that night and now has James Harden back in action to ease the burden on his shoulders.
